Welcome to GSDRA!

As the local council of the California Reading Association, we strive to provide you with the most up-to-date information and techniques in teaching reading and writing. Membership in GSDRA is open to all teachers, librarians, parents, administrators, paraprofessionals, students, and others interested in the teaching of reading and the promotion of literacy.

Our council hosts two reading conferences a year, one in the fall and the second in the winter. Members and nonmembers are encouraged to attend both conferences. In March, GSDRA hosts the Authors' Fair which is open to schools all over San Diego County.

President's Message

Welcome to our website.

I hope that you can take the time to check out the things that the Greater San Diego Reading Association does for literacy in the San Diego area.  If you aren't already a member, please consider joining our group.  We meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCO), generally in the 300 building.  Just listen and you'll hear the sound of laughter and friends working together. We are new teachers, veteran teachers, librarians, administrators, and readers from districts throughout the county.  We share and learn from each other; there's no greater way to network than to participate in a professional organization.  And . . . WE think that GSDRA is one of the BEST!

We are currently working on a winter conference, scheduled for February 27th to be held at SDCOE.  We've added the registration form to the website soon, so SAVE THE DATE!  Our theme is going to be the Technology and Literacy.  As a classroom teacher, I have participated in many local and state reading conferences and always find that I come away inspired by the energy and new strategies for the the classroom.  If you need some inspiration, you need to come.  If you don’t, then we need you to come and share!!!
If you are going to take a field trip to Balboa Park, you may want to check out the mini-book on Kate Sessions, who was responsible for many of the trees still standing.

If you have questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact us.  My personal e-mail is pcline6@cox.net.
